Prince Rhaegar Targaryen was the eldest son of King Aegon VI Targaryen and Queen Sansa Stark, and thus Prince of Dragonstone and heir to the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Born in the year 303 AC, Rhaegar tragically died when his capture, and the dubious events surrounded his death, were the focal point of the War of the Lords Scorned in 333 AC.

History[]

Born in King's Landing to King Aegon VI Targaryen and Queen Sansa Stark, Rhaegar Targaryen was named for his grandfather, and was the eldest child of the new king.

Rhaegar spent most of his life in the city, raised to be a proper nobleman and, one day, a fine king.

The Lords Scorned[]

After Mycah Strickland threw a tournament in Harrenhal to remember his late father, the crown prince Rhaegar attended in his father's stead. The Strickland, angered by the slight and by Aegon VI denying his offer of marriage, decided to enforce his will through a show of arms.

Mycah Strickland took all those in Harrenhal who did not side with him hostage, including the Crown Prince. Ravens flew, demanding concessions and equality for the lords that rallied to the Strickland's banners, else Rhaegar, and all the other hostages, would be executed.

For long months this fear kept Aegon and his supporters from bringing the full might of the realm down on Harrenhal, till at last the news escaped. Rhaegar had died, fallen some said, though others whispered of murder and treason. Whatever the cause, the deed was done - and as the veil lifted, so too did any reservations toward putting down the Strickland revolt.

Family[]

Rhaegar gave birth to three daughters; Aella, Daenys, and Daena Targaryen, all born to him and his sister-wife Visenya.

Because of Rhaegar's status as crown prince, his three daughters boasted a stronger than average claim upon the throne of Westeros, being his sole issue. Wedding one proved an honour in later years.
